So, this bridge, to me, is the most beautiful place in the entire city of Rovaniemi, especially if you can catch it in the right lighting (summer is the best). The bridge is called the Jätkänkynttilä bridge and is one of the most important symbols of Rovaniemi. It runs over the Kemijoki close the northern end of the city center. Bridge has a high pylon with bright yellow light on top. I tried to find more information on the bridge but the majority is just photos. If anyone knows who built it, when, etc. please post and share. It is beautiful, here are some photos, look for more on flickr and check out my short video of it. BEAUTIFUL!

The bridge has a plate about its construction. I don’t know if it has the architect and the history of the bridge, but at least something.

It resembles “The Lumberjack’s Candle” (Jätkänkynttilä), traditional northern Finland way of lighting during long winter nights, two pieces of tree trunk side by side with a fire between them.

Oh wow, i was in a snowmobile in January, right on that Kemi river!!!! Here in southern Europe ice on lakes or rivers is never to deep except for Spain Highland i guess, but i wonder how deep and thick was the ice on the Kemi so that we can ride snowmobiles on it…
That bridge i walked on it a lot of time each time i went to Rovaniemi, nice bridge, great view over the river : ) loved it, miss finland hope to return one day on another adventure travell!
